What’s Happening in Room 106!

March  2000

Life in the fourth  grade is very busy! During the past few weeks we have been working on our famous person report. Thanks to everyone who took time to revise and edit different pieces of the report. The WASL test is around the corner. Your continued support in looking at and talking about your child’s writing will help improve their writing skills.

Please let me know if you would like additional writing or math practice to work on together with your child.

Conference slips are coming home today. If you are interested in meeting and discussing your child’s progress, please let me know. I am always available to meet with you to talk about my favorite subject, your child!

Thanks for you continued support!

Math Fact Know it All Club

Every student is a member of this special club and is committed to learn all multiplication facts. Students who are able to demonstrate their mastery of all facts in a timely manner will become Executive Members. A special celebration is being planned for those members. Ask your child how well they have been doing on their weekly timings.

If you would like flash cards or timing sheets please let me know.

Fourth Grade WASL

All fourth grade students in Washington State will be taking the WASL (Washington Assessment of Student Learning). This assessment will measure math, writing, listening, and reading skills. Camelot fourth graders will be taking the test.

During this week students will be provided a light morning and afternoon snack. FOOD FOR THE BRAIN! Please let me know if you would be willing to supply a snack for one day. I will then send out a schedule for you to sign up for a day.

Here’s Looking At You!

Students are participating in a Drugs and Alcohol awareness unit. For the next few weeks we will be focusing on those concerns and making good choices. Coming home today is a HLAY newsletter.

Student Web Pages

Thank you visiting our student web pages from our class web page. Students greatly appreciate your emails with comments about their pages. Famous Person Reports will soon be uploaded onto the Internet.

Student Teacher

Our classroom has welcomed a student teacher from City University. David Baxter will be with us until June 7, 2000. I will be working with him as he fine tunes his teaching skills. The students have been very positive towards his arrival. He can be reached at dbaxter@fwsd.wednet.edu. Feel free to send him a note of welcome!

Accelerated Reader

As the love of reading continues to grow in our class so does student reading levels. Students are reading quality literature and then taking a quiz to measure comprehension using AR.

If you would like a copy of your child’s AR report to see the books they are reading and reading level, please let me know.

Keyboarding

Our students are the keyboarding generation! Each week students practice their keyboarding. Ask your child how many (WPM) Words Per Minute they type. For practice at home….go to www.easytype.com. This Internet site helps students practice their keyboarding skills.
